Many elderly people find it difficult to get enough calories

The need for nutrition changes throughout life. As age increases, you lose part of your muscle mass, and your appetite may fail. That is why it is important that you are physically active and get your nutritional needs covered. Thereby you preserve your muscle mass and ability to cope with daily tasks.

Food, nutrition and meals are therefore of great importance to the elderly being able to maintain or regain their ability to function and thereby increase their quality of life.

Weight loss (unplanned), loss of muscle mass and functional ability is seen very frequently among the elderly. Up to half of the elderly who live in care homes experience weight loss. The number of elderly people who weigh too little or have lost weight and/or have a reduced appetite is thus large, and even a small weight loss is important.

Weight loss is defined as loss of body weight from fat stores and especially loss of protein from muscles. If, as an elderly person, for example, you do not eat enough protein, the body eats away at its own muscle mass.

If you are a healthy elderly person and have a good appetite, you must eat like all other adults and follow the 10 official dietary guidelines. If you are underweight or have a reduced appetite, the food must have a high content of energy and protein.

It is important to be aware that weight loss can be an early sign of illness, which must then be investigated.

What should elderly picky eaters eat?

If you are a picky eater, you should not eat coarse, green and low-fat foods. On the other hand, you need to stabilize your weight and must therefore eat food with a high content of energy and protein.

Here are some good tips

  • Eat 6-8 energy-rich small meals a day, for example yoghurt, skim, fromage and fruit porridge with cream
  • Dishes with a softer texture can be an advantage – for example, choose beer bread with cream instead of rye bread with butter and cold cuts, blended vegetable soup with milk or cream instead of raw vegetables
  • Drink energy- and protein-rich drinks such as drinking yoghurt, cocoa with whipped cream, cold drinks and whole milk
  • Use drinks with a high content of energy and protein as cold drinks, homemade or industrially produced drinks as good snacks or possibly as a substitute for a main meal.
  • Enrich all the meals and drinks of the day with Adozan.

Adozan can contribute extra calories and protein

Adozan can be mixed into food and drink and increase the nutritional content without changing the volume, taste and consistency. In other words, Adozan can give your favorite dishes some extra power.
Adozan is stirred into food and drink both during preparation and when serving, in baked goods and bread, in hot and cold dishes and drinks.

4 Adozan products are recommended for picky eaters....

Cold/Hot provides extra energy and protein. This product becomes whitish after dissolution and is very suitable in a cup of coffee, shakes, soups, baked goods, porridge, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc.

Transparent provides extra energy and protein. This product becomes transparent after dissolution and is therefore suitable for use in juice, soups and fruit porridge.

High energy provides extra energy, but no proteins. This product becomes whitish after dissolution and is very suitable in a cup of coffee, shakes, soups, baked goods, porridge, mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, etc.

Adozan Chocolate contains as much energy as regular chocolate, but the advantage of Adozan Chocolate is that it also contributes proteins.
AND then it's ready to eat.
